  FINE ASSEMBLED PAIR CLASSICAL GAMES TABLESNew York, attributed to the shop of Duncan Phyfe, circa 1816, each with highly figured veneers throughout, banded tops opening to mahogany veneered playing surfaces, highly figured mahogany skirts with ebonized and brass inlaid lower molding, reeded barrel and ball turned supports, on leaf carved legs with lion's paw feet and brass casters, one with pale yellow paper lining to interior compartment, 30 x 36 x 18 in. and 30-1/4 x 36 x 18 in., Provenance: Christie's New York, January 2001, lot 113, sold for $25,000; Private Collection, Atlanta; Note: For a closely related Duncan Phyfe table of this form with brass inlaid and ebonized lower skirt molding and drum and ball turned supports, see Peter Kenney,ÿDuncan Phyfe: Master Cabinetmaker in New York, fig. 81. The table is documented to Duncan Phyfe and was part of the Brinckerhoff suite of furniture supplied by Phyfe in 1816. A very closely related Pembroke table was also supplied by Phyfe to the Brinckerhoffs (see plate 19).ÿ Condition: in very good condition and closely matched, the slight height difference and difference in graining suggest they are an assembled pair, both with intact legs and feet with original casters; shorter example with chip and loss at rear corner of top and veneer chip at front edge of top, typical cracks, warping, and veneer distress to top; taller exampleÿwith some scratches and veneer distress to top, some patches and repairs to veneered banding on edges of top, much of the base retains an old possibly original finish with crazing and wear, some areas of varnish bloom

  PAIR OF CARVED DANERSK CORNER CABINETS: Pair of Early 20th century American corner cabinets with carved shell hood, over 2 shaped shelves. over single door. Of Mahogany with wood peg construction, hand forged door latch & hinges. Wood burn makers mark at the reverse. The company that made these was also responsible for making the largest Duncan Phyfe table in the word, which resided in the Directors room of the Insurance Company of North America in Philadelphia, PA. Each Approx. 80.75'' h x 38.75'' w x 16.5'' d. CONDITION: Scattered indents, scratches, & nicks commensurate with age and use.
• A Set of Four American Classical Carved
  A Set of Four American Classical Carved Mahogany Side Chairs c. 1815 New York attributed to Duncan Phyfe tablet crest pierced medial rail slip seat saber legs height 32 in. Note: These chairs are apparently identical to chairs attributed to Phyfe at the Edison Institute Henry Ford Museum Dearborn Michigan and relate to those in a suite of eighteen dining chairs made by Duncan Phyfe for Charles March and conserved by the Vanderpoel House of History in Kinderhook New York. The front legs on the lot offered here and the Edison Institute chairs are highly carved in contrast to the finely reeded sabre legs on the March examples. Reference: McClelland.
